Election results

The election results reflect the relationship between candidate support and ethnic representation.  President Goodluck Johnathan who is from the Bayelsa state received the greater number of votes. He was highly supported in the South  except in Osun state where Ribadu had greater supporters. Muhammadu Buhari from Katsina State had full support from the Northern states of Nigeria. The citizens elect leaders that they believe will provide them with better social benefits and create a better infrastructure for their community. In order for citizens to acknowledge progress and development, they must be able to observe the transformation in their own communities. This is the incentive for most Nigerian citizens  to vote for a candidate from their own region. Among the many different tribes, cultures, and languages, Nigerians want to vote for someone they can relate to, someone they believe will bring upon change in their own communities and advance their lives.
