Capture of Mohammed Yusuf

Just watch about 2 seconds.

Jul 26 2009 was the start of a series  of Boko Haram attacks on police stations and other security forces in Maiduguri and other parts of the Northern region. This lead to a gunfight between the army and Boko haram members in the streets of Maiduguri. This left about 700 people of Maidaguru dead. On July 30 2009,  the radical Islamist sect leader  of Boko Haram, Mohammed Yusuf was captured and interrogated, then killed while in police custody. An enormous amount of controversy surrounded his death because it was initially reported that Yusuf was killed during the gunfight while another police claimed that he was the man who handed Yusuf over to the authorities  while he was still alive. The above video is evidence of Yusuf in police custody. It is understood that Yusuf was executed by the police without any trial. This incidence further gave evidence of the state's illegitimacy and diminished the people's trust as the government was unable to initially reveal the whereabouts of Yusuf. The state believed that Boko haram had been successfully eliminated with the passing of its founder and leader.
