There were many explosions that took place in the days leading up to the inauguration. President Goodluck Johnathan was inaugurated on May 29 2011. High security was in placed to ensure the safety of the President and all other officials due to ongoing threats from the Boko Haram terrorists. Hours after the inauguration, a bomb blast in Bauchi state went off, further increasing the countries state of emergency.

Despite the ongoing violence and threats, President Goodluck Johnathan's  inauguration was carried out successfully. However, bomb blasts shook the country hours later. The political motives of Boko Haram became more evident as frequency of the violence increased as the inauguration date drew near.
